The Story Of @BlackOLLG

@blackollg

The Original Four!

@BlackOLLG is the brainchild of Shelly A. and was created in 2010. Originally co-owned by four girls, their mission was to bring awareness to the fact that Justin had never had a Black One Less Lonely Girl. It didn’t take long for the Bieber Crew to notice. On October 30, 2010, the first ever Black OLLG was sung to by Justin in San Diego, California. This was a great day for many, especially black girls who didn’t think they would ever be good enough to be OLLG because of how they looked. The creators of @BlackOLLG raised awareness on a sensitive issue that many girls were afraid to speak up on. At times they worried that they would come across as offensive, as if they were implying that the crew was being racist. Since the first Black OLLG three years ago, there have been about six or seven more. Every time there is a new one, there is a celebration on twitter; one day, there won’t need to be a celebration.

@BlackOLLG started out with four co-owners: Shelly, Chloe, AJ and Chelsea. Since then, it has dwindled down to mainly Shelly on the account with Chloe showing up once in a while. With the power of @BlackOLLG, Shelly has done her share of giving back by promoting Justin as much as possible, on and outside of twitter. Two of her most notable projects are the Miami Buyouts for Under The Mistletoe (2011) and Believe Acoustic (2013). The aim of these buyouts was to donate CDs to children’s hospitals. Scooter is aware of Shelly and has tweeted his appreciation for her many times. He’s even said it too, in this video!

The purpose of @BlackOLLG was not for the creators to be OLLG themselves; that was not their initial aim. However, who doesn’t dream of being OLLG? Shelly has seen Justin live twice – once on the My World Tour and once on the Believe Tour. Both times, she had hopes of being the One Less Lonely Girl but it never happened. On the second occasion, she did meet Justin! Her biggest dream is to be OLLG and she will keep on going until it happens. She has received a lot of hate because of this, with some saying that it is “unfair” since she has been noticed by the crew. But, everyone ultimately dreams to meet Justin and be OLLG; being noticed on twitter is not the be-all and end-all. Shelly has the support of thousands of people and will be the One Less Lonely Girl sooner than later. She has shared her personal story in the past and deserves a chance to live her dream, like anyone else.

If you have a dream, chase it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t try. Nothing beats a trial but a failure. Don’t let the number of twitter followers or tweets someone have affect your opinion of them; remember, they started at 0 too. Believe.

shellyyyyyNever Say Never, Shelly! Always believe in your dreams! And, Happy Birthday 🙂
